Legacy Card for the Looker-James-Rice Cemetery.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

This cemetery remains tucked away behind heavy brush with only a small, simple sign barely visible from SR-256 heading toward Baltimore. From Pickerington, travel east on Reynoldsburg-Baltimore Road and make a right into Simsbury Park. Park in the parking lot and walk toward the water tower along the right side of the fence. A path lies cut out of the woods to follow back into the hidden cemetery plot.

THE HISTORY

On Wednesday, May 1, 1811, James Looker received a land patent in Violet Township encompassing the south half of Section 11, which included this cemetery plot in the original issuance. James Looker recently arrived at the time and settled in Fairfield County. As of Friday, October 19, 1810, the record indicated James still remained a resident of Rockingham County, Virginia. The Rice, Rhoades, and Beard families owned land in the southwest corner of Section 11 and were buried here as well. More early residents rest with the plots below, however the stones, remnants, and stories remain lost to time.
