BIOGRAPHY

PLEASANT TOWNSHIP – As autumn surrounded Fairfield County in 1832, Catharine Nichols was born on Tuesday, September 11 in Berne Township to Jacob and Mary “Polly” Ann (Lantz) Nichols. She grew up on the family farm and skilled in the ability to read and write. At thirty-eight years old, she married John Benjamin Harman on Thursday, September 7, 1871, and shared forty years of marriage together in Pleasant Township before he died on Tuesday, May 28, 1912. They did not have any children of their own; however, provided a home for her brother, Joseph Nichols and his wife, Mary. Catharine passed away shortly after her husband, on Friday, July 10, 1914, in Lancaster. She lies buried next to John in the Forest Rose Cemetery in Section E-1, Lot 4W.
